Viral campaigns aren’t new, if anything they’ve been quite popular of recent, but like most advertising campaigns, it’s hard to pull of perfectly. There needs to be the right element of mystery and tinge of annoyance when it comes to these sorts of things – most of them just end up being annoying or something I don’t care about. But recently there’ve been a couple of viral campaigns that have got me interested. First up it’s none other than the TabCo viral marketing campaign that popped up a couple of weeks ago. Now there’s a new kid on the block.

A new Twitter account named MDB228 has recently popped up which people have been speculating has something to do with the Motorola Droid Bionic. The phone that was introduced at CES earlier this year still hasn’t reared its head in the wild all this while. It was promised to arrive earlier this year, then rumored to be cancelled, then announced that it was going under a redesign, and now it seems that it might be ready for prime time.

The MDB228 (which is the model number for the Motorola Droid Bionic) Twitter account has been posting tweets as though it was some sort of robot talking to the world, dropping hints of its features and imminent arrival. So we have from it so far? It is real, it is coming soon, it will probably have a locked bootloader, it will have webtop abilities, it will look nothing like the previous Bionic, and it will pack a 1,900mAh battery.

It’s got me hooked so far and I can’t wait to find out more. But hopefully the “Earth 2014” in its Twitter description isn’t indicative of when the phone will be released. Any of you still waiting for this phone to be released?
