Huawei has collaborated with Red Bull in the past to introduce the RBM HD rugged handset, which is otherwise known as the Impulse for AT&T. It looks like that collaboration is back, but this time instead of Red Bull, Huawei has teamed up with the Discovery Channel to introduce the Huawei-Discovery Expedition phone, which considering the shows and programs that the Discovery Channel puts out, is a rather fitting name.

First of all, don’t expect anything too fancy from this device. Given its name and the company that Huawei has teamed up with, you would not be mistaken to expect yet another rugged device from the handset manufacturer. If you happen to love the outdoors and go camping or hiking often, then perhaps this handset might have something for you.

The Huawei-Discovery Expedition handset is said to be able to withstand water, dust and electrical shock. It will also come with features that you will need while outdoors, such as GPS, a G-sensor (accelerometer), a compass and even a built-in torch. Oddly enough, for a phone designed for the outdoors (and in conjunction with the Discovery Channel), there doesn’t appear to be a camera.

However if the lack of camera is fine by you, and you have a DSLR on hand for your outdoor photography needs, Huawei has said that the device can be expected in Q4 of 2011, although pricing and carriers have yet to be announced.
