BlackBerry PlayBook native email, calendar and contacts app spotted

PlayBook CalendarIt’s taken RIM awhile but it looks like they’ve finally made some progress on the essential native apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook. In case you’re unfamiliar with the PlayBook tablet, one of its biggest drawbacks was the lack of functionality when used without a BlackBerry phone. For example, the tablet didn’t even have its own native email client!

Yesterday at the BlackBerry Innovation Forum, RIM gave a demonstration of the native email, contacts and calendar apps that will be arriving on the PlayBook sometime in the future. The folks over at BlackBerryCool.com managed to snap a whole bunch of photographs of the apps in action, and so far they’re all looking pretty good such as the calendar that shows larger numbers on your busy days (shown in screenshot).

The PlayBook email, contacts and calendar apps are expected to arrive on February 17th, 2012. With the current promotion that RIM is having for the PlayBook, these apps should provide an incentive for people who are thinking of picking one up.
