For those of you who take the public transport (for various reasons), then here is something from John Graham-Cumming that might just carve a smile on your face. We are talking about an ambient bus arrival monitor which was constructed from a hacked Linksys wireless router, where it is capable of retrieving data from London’s Countdown service, informing one just how much longer one needs to wait until the next ride comes along. Definitely worth having right in front of your work desk, as you can then estimate just when you are going to wrap up the day’s work at your desk before heading home. This particular project seems to be usable by the average programmer, and I guess you can always apply the same principle to just about any exterior form factor, be it a train, plane or ship.
