So April Fool’s was yesterday and it looks like a lot of companies had fun in their attempts to pull the wool over our eyes. Nokia was no exception as they had announced the Nokia Ice, which as you can see pictured above, is a Windows Phone-based smartphone that has been made from a block of ice that Nokia claims that it will “reduce material costs and the environmental impact, too.”

Nokia dedicated much of the Tampere R&D unit to work on a solution for how to keep a phone made out of ice charged up. The solution was simple. They came up with a way of charging the Nokia Ice by placing it in a freezer. This unique technology uses a chemical energy transfer called an endothermic reaction, only it captures the cold instead of heat.”

It looks like the Nokia Ice will be one device that will not be subject to complaints over overheating, but unfortunately do to the materials used to construct the device, Nokia has stated that it cannot leave their labs for extended periods of time. What a pity. In any case, well played Nokia! We hope that everyone had a great April Fools!
