Assuming Apple keeps to the same schedule as they did back in 2011 when they launched the iPhone 4S, it is safe to assume that the next-gen iPhone will be launched around the same time this year. As usual Apple has kept mum on these sorts of things but thanks to Verizon’s CFO, he may have hinted at a release in Q4 later this year. This was revealed during Verizon’s conference call discussing its Q2 2012 financial performance and when asked what might have held some customers back from upgrading their devices, he was quoted as saying, “of course there’s always that, uh, rumor mill out there with a new phone coming out there in the fourth quarter, so people may be waiting.”

There is a slight chance that he might be referring to the next-gen Android handset which assuming they’re keeping to schedule, could also be seeing a Q4 release but then again, the rumor mill has been churning out more iPhone rumors than Nexus rumors as of late, so it would be safe to assume that he was referring to the iPhone. It should be noted that this is hardly a confirmation, but it’s good to know that Verizon’s CFO seems to think that a Q4 launch does seem likely.
