Starbucks Allows Twitter Users To Buy Coffee For One Another

Twitter has been used for several years now as a major form of communication between a person and their followers, but in recent years, we’ve seen the service be used by brands to reward customers with real-world goods for the cost of a tweet. Starbucks looks like it’s getting in on the Twitter game as they are launching a beta program called Tweet-a-Coffee.

Starbucks’ Tweet-a-Coffee beta program allows Twitter users to buy a $5 gift card for a friend. In order to do so, you’ll first need to sync your Starbucks account with your Twitter handle, which will also require a credit card to be added to your account. Once that’s set up, you’ll simply send out a tweet including “@tweetacoffee” along with the Twitter handle of the intended recipient, which they’ll then be presented with a gift card.

As a way to entice customers to use Tweet-a-Coffee, Starhucks is giving the first 100,000 people who link their accounts with their Visa credit cards will receive a $5 gift card for themselves once they tweet a cup of coffee to someone else.

Starbucks launched a similar program on Facebook back in 2011 that would allow its users to send a gift card to other Facebook users. We guess the program did well enough on Facebook to warrant its inclusion on Twitter.
