free-pokemonThey say that there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world, but is there such a thing as free games? Apparently so, as Nintendo has now extended its “Recommended Software” promotion on Japan, resulting in the new Nintendo 3DS XL (or rather, the Nintendo 3DS LL as it is called in the Land of the Rising Sun) owners being able to pick up a free game from a slew of titles that will change at the turn of each month. From June onwards, Pokemon X & Y will be part of that coveted list, now how about that as an incentive?

Basically, the “Recommended Software” promotion works this way – anyone who has picked up a brand new Nintendo 3DS LL will have until September 30 in order to download a free game that catches their fancy from a collection of titles. Should the selection for that particular month sound unappealing to you, you can always hold off for one more month to see if the next round of titles on offer have something that catches your fancy.

From April 26 to May 30, the selection includes Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Yo-kai Watch, while in June, Yo-kai Watch will drop out of the roster, although its ranks will be augmented with the presence of Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, Pokémon Art Academy and Puzzle & Dragons Z.
