Its no secret that Microsoft is working hard to attract OEMs for Windows Phone. The company has had a relationship with HTC in the past but recently HTC has solely been focusing on Android smartphones. There have been rumors recently about HTC working on a new Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone. Without explicitly confirming the rumor, Microsoft has teased us about a developing partnership with HTC.

While speaking at a press conference at Computex earlier today Microsoft’s OEM head Nick Parker hinted that HTC might start developing Windows Phone smartphones again. Parker said that while he couldn’t break any news there, he did mention that Microsoft will continue to have a “great relationship with HTC.” Parker also teased that “new things are coming, so get excited.”

As per a recent rumor HTC is working on a Verizon-exclusive Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone. Not much is known about the device at this point in time though it is said to tout HTC’s BoomSound speakers and Duo cameras, which debuted on the HTC One M8.

Apparently the first device won’t be high-end, instead HTC is reportedly shooting for the mid-range market with a WP8.1 running smartphone. Microsoft has also managed to sign some low-cost manufacturers which might increase its chances of a greater footprint in emerging markets.
