volantisIt does seem as though HTC will make another entrance to the tablet market later this year with a model that has been touted to be called the HTC Volantis. What you see above happens to be what @evleaks calls an “HTC Volantis macro shot”, where one can clearly see the Flounder codename there, all the while sporting a mention of “Android Silver OS Alpha 1.4.” Hmmm, could this be part of the Android Silver program that is said to kill the Nexus lineup? Only time will tell. As for a potential release date, it seems that there is a very real possibility of the new HTC tablet arriving some time in the fourth quarter of this year.

@evleaks claims that the earlier renders of the HTC Volantis were not the real deal, with whispers of 5GB RAM going around despite the fact that a leak slightly less than a fortnight ago pointed to just 2GB RAM. As for the rest of the hardware specifications of this highly secretive tablet, it does look set to arrive with an 8.9” display (some sources claim it has a 2,560 x 1,600 pixels resolution, while others point to 2,048 x 1,440), BoomSound speakers, an 8MP camera at the back, 64GB of internal memory (although we are not ruling out the possibility of a 32GB or 16GB model as well), and a 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, among others.
