Just yesterday Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Alpha smartphone, its much rumored device that is fashioned out of metal. The Alpha is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos chip and now the company has revealed more detailed information about the Exynos 5 Octa 5430. Samsung has built this chip on its 20nm process to ensure “drastically lower” consumption of power.

Touting four Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and four smaller Cortex-A7 cores at 1.3GHz which support big.LITTLE HMP or heterogeneous Multi-Processing, it basically activates and deactivates individual cores based on processing needs, the Samsung Exynos 5240 octacore processor is the first that’s based on the company’s 20nm HKMG process.

Samsung claims that this new design enables the processor to be over 25 percent more power efficient than the existing chip based on Samsung’s 28nm process. Moreover it will also include support for higher resolution WQHD and WQXGA displays at 2,560×1,440 pixel resolution. The Exynos 5430 comes with an enhanced dual Image Signal Processor and 17GBs of memory bandwidth to enhance multimedia experiences on mobile devices.

Given all of its abilities there is a possible that a variant of the Galaxy Note 4 might be powered by this Exynos processor. Samsung usually releases multiple variants of its high-end smartphones that are powered by Qualcomm and its own Exynos chips. The company did not reveal if any other OEMs have decided to purchase this processor for their mobile devices.
