htcdoubleexposureA couple of days ago, HTC announced that they would be hosting an event on the 8th of October in NYC. The event is titled “Double Exposure” and based on the name it sounds like it has something to do with photography, and based on the invite’s photo, it could be to do with something about smartphones and maybe even selfies.

That being said, a tweet by Tim Culpan who is a journalist from Bloomberg has possibly revealed what HTC has planned for the event. According to Culpan, he claims that HTC could be planning an announcement for a rugged camera that will connect directly to smartphones. It is also rumored to feature a wide angle lens, Bluetooth, and a 16MP sensor.

While we’re not sure what to make of this, it sounds a lot like Sony’s QX-series of lens-style cameras. For those unfamiliar, these are cameras that are shaped like a lens. They pair with smartphones via Bluetooth and NFC and will use the smartphone’s display as a viewfinder. This allows a bit more freedom in photography and also allows more in-depth controls.

The QX-series isn’t exactly a hit although it is pretty innovative and interesting, but could it be compelling enough for HTC to try and announce something similar of their own? Take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us on the 8th of October for the details!
