So far the reviews of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS have been great. Many gamers seem to be pleased with the idea of being able to play the game while on the go, although unfortunately the multiplayer mode is limited to just four-players. This is understandable given the size of the Nintendo 3DS console.

However could Nintendo be prepping for an 8-player mode? Well according to a recent post on Sounds Resource, it seems that a user has discovered a hidden file for the audio track “8 Player Smash”, along with a host of other sound files. These files are used in the game to announce different modes and names, so one of them seemed to announce an 8 player Smash mode.

At this point in time it is unclear if the file might simply be from the Wii U version of the game, which is pegged for a release later this year, or if it might be code leftover from an earlier build of Super Smash Bros that was never realized, or as some have speculated and are hoping, it could be a hint of upcoming content that Nintendo could be bringing to the game in a future update.

Of course we’re sure that many are hoping that it will be the latter, but like we said, the small screen size of the Nintendo 3DS and its processing power could be a limiting factor, but either way hopefully we will hear from Nintendo soon. In the meantime you can check out the audio files in the video above.
