Back in August Instagram, which is now owned by Facebook, launched a new application which makes it quite easy to capture time lapse videos. The app is called Hyperlapse and users don’t need an account to use it, Instagram says that it has been developed to be “as simple as possible.” If you have been wondering how to activate 1080p recording in this application you’re in luck because one YouTube user has been able to locate a hidden menu that gives access to advanced settings.

The video has been posted on YouTube by a user called hoschdebacha and even though it is in German you really don’t need to know the language in order to figure out what’s actually going on.

In order to access the hidden menu just launched the Hyperlapse application and then tap the screen with four fingers, four times. This brings up “Labs” which contains advanced settings such as the ability to edit frame rate, change save location, bump up resolution to 1080p and even enable a setting called Hyperlapse EXTREME.

The entire process is quite easy and should take more than a few minutes to enhance your Hyperlapse experience. Check out the video posted above to see how you’re supposed to bring up the “Labs” menu.
