iPhone-6-review-4

Every quarter Apple reveals how many iPhones it has shipped around the world but one thing the company doesn’t do is break down those figures by model. So even if it moves 50 million iPhones in one quarter the company won’t reveal how many units of precisely which iPhone model were moved. This means that we have to rely on third party data to find out which iPhone is performing better than its siblings. Right now it appears that the iPhone 6 has taken the clear lead.

Analyst Steve Milunovich of UBS summarizes the data from the first 30 days of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus availability in the U.S. and concludes that during this period iPhone 6 account for 68 percent of all iPhone sales, whereas the iPhone 6 Plus could only muster 23-24 percent.

Combined, both new iPhones accounted for over 90 percent of all iPhone sales within the first four weeks of their availability, with the rest being accounted for by sales of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

Last year’s flagships only accounted for 84 percent of all iPhone sales after the same amount of time which goes to show that this time around customers are more interested in the latest smartphones from Apple.

Even while the iPhone 6 Plus is being outsold by a 3-to-1 margin by the iPhone 6 it is unclear whether the demand is not meeting expectations or it has something to do with Apple’s manufacturing partners having trouble providing adequate supply.

iPhone 6 Plus has also been surrounded by the #bendgate controversy ever since it was first released, something which might compel customers to go with the smaller iPhone 6 instead.
