The Nexus 6 may be the flagship smartphone in Google’s arsenal but the company has been selling Nexus 5 alongside this device. We reported earlier today that both red and white version of Nexus 5 are no longer available for purchase through the Play Store, only the black version was available. Initially it was believed that these versions might be stocked again but that isn’t the case. Google has actually stopped producing Nexus 5 units.

This means that the red and white versions will probably not come back in stock at the Play Store again, provided that Google doesn’t have some inventory stashed away that it can offer at another point in time.

Google confirmed to TechRadar today that LG, the manufacturer of this smartphone, has indeed ceased production. While the black versions were available until earlier today, now both 16GB and 32GB models in black are no longer in stock on the Play Store.

That’s not to say you won’t be able to purchase a Nexus 5 now. There are a lot of third party retailers and resellers who are likely going to have stock on hand, so if you’re really bent on picking up this device some research might do you good. The inevitable truth is that no further Nexus 5 units will be produced, so any remaining inventory out there is likely to dry out fairly quickly.
