AT&T Tower

AT&T today announced that its launching a new superhero series. Don’t expect it to air on any of the major networks, or through some online streaming service, this series will actually be the first scripted series that’s distributed over Snapchat. It doesn’t take much to put two and two together. With this new initiative AT&T wants to reach out to millions of teens who use Snapchat to rope them in for its other services.

If the focus on millennials wasn’t clear, take into account that AT&T is also leaning on some of the biggest YouTube and Vine stars to push the “SnapperHero” series. Stars and influencers include Anna Akana, Harley Morenstein of Epic Meal Time, Freddie Wong of Video Game High School and others. Shonduras or Shaun McBride will serve as Creative Director.

These social media personalities will involve their audiences in the process. AT&T says input from fans will determine plot lines, costumes, origin stories, superhero identities and enemies.

Once everything is done and dusted the 12 episode series will be released over a four week period over Snapchat. Each episode will disappear after 24 hours.

All episodes will be available for viewing through the @SnapperHero account. Interestingly it won’t be included in the Discover feed, a new feature that Snapchat announced just yesterday, that primarily focuses on putting media content front and center.
