blackberryEarlier today we reported that there was a rumor that Samsung could be interested in acquiring BlackBerry. The report claimed that Samsung was willing to pay as much as $7.5 billion for the Canadian company, but unfortunately it turns out that the rumors weren’t true after all. BlackBerry has recently released a statement refuting the rumors.

According to the statement, which is rather boilerplate in its content, “BlackBerry has not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase BlackBerry. BlackBerry’s policy is not to comment on rumors or speculation, and accordingly it does not intend to comment further.”

So it looks like if you were hoping to see Samsung involvement with BlackBerry, we guess that’s just wishful thinking for now. Oddly enough this isn’t the first time that Samsung has been linked to BlackBerry. A couple of years ago, there were rumors that Samsung was interested in acquiring the company or at the very least license its BlackBerry OS 10.

However just like today, Samsung had refuted the rumors. We’re not sure why Samsung and BlackBerry tie-ups seem to keep popping up, and like the saying goes, when there’s smoke, there’s fire. In any case BlackBerry has made their position official, so unless they’re trying to pull the wool over our eyes, we guess the rumors as good as dead for now.
