google appsWhen it comes to productivity in the office, it is safe to say that the majority of businesses out there rely on Microsoft Office to get their work done, type up documents, send emails, create presentation slides, put together spreadsheets that help calculate finances, and so on. Of course Office isn’t the only option out there as there is also Google Apps for Work which is basically Google’s alternative to Office.

However it seems that instead of being merely content as an alternative, Google has recently shared with Business Insider their plans on how they plan on stealing 80% of Microsoft’s Office business. According to Amit Singh, the president of Google for Work, “We’re ready for them now. I think the last 12 months we’ve proven to a) ourselves b) the market that the Apps are ready for adoption in large enterprises. Now I think is the time to actually scale that even further.”

For starters they plan to offer 85-90% of the function of Office and that they shouldn’t have to worry about the remaining 10-15% who might be power users. They also plan to make Google Apps more compatible with Office so that users can edit Office documents within Google Apps that are perfectly rendered, as opposed to having the formatting and design messed up due to difference in compatibility.

Google’s plan will also include getting customers hooked onto Google’s other products beyond Apps which could then be used to try and sell companies into using Apps. Google will also show their users how their applications can be used to help with mobile workers, an interesting move considering that most of us are on our phones these days.

Of course it remains to be seen if Google will be able to achieve that, but what do you guys think? Will Google be able to nab 80% of Microsoft’s Office share with Google Apps?
