anti-uber-franceWhile governments and local taxi services don’t like Uber, based on the funding that Uber has gotten from investors and the various positive feedback from passengers (incidents notwithstanding), it seems that Uber is a very popular service, so much so that Google could be thinking of launching their own version of it.

This is according to  report from Bloomberg who claims that their source has told them that Google has been working on a taxi service of their own similar to what Uber is offering, so much so that they already have an app in place. Screenshots of the app have been allegedly shared with Uber executives which apparently is currently being used and tested by Google employees.

It’s interesting to see that Google could be interested into getting into the taxi business, but then again Google has not been shy to venture into other markets in which they have had no experience in formerly. For example we’ve seen Google try to revolutionize the transportation market by working on self-driving cars.

They also attempted to compete with Facebook by launching Google+, and if the recent rumors are to be believed, they could be looking to take on the carrier industry by launching their own MVNO service. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Would you be willing to take a Google taxi service?
