sony-benchmarkWhen Mobile World Congress (MWC) kicks off later this coming March, you know for sure that there will be enough fanfare and announcements to go around that will keep even the most hardcore smartphone watcher satisfied. Having said that, it is common knowledge that Sony has already reserved a spot in MWC 2015, and who knows – they could very well make an announcement of a new mid-range device in Barcelona next month, obviously much to the chagrin of those who would prefer to see a flagship roll out with all the relevant bells and whistles.

How did we come across such speculation? Well, for starters, there is an unidentified Sony device that has been seen making an appearance at GFX Bench, and the test results does point to some clues as to the kind of hardware it packs.

This mystery E2003/E2033 device will sport a 4.6” display with a rather low 540 x 960 resolution count by today’s standards, a quad-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6752 with an ARM Mali-T760 GPU, 1GB RAM, a microSD memory card slot to complement the 8GB of internal memory, Android 4.4.4 KitKat in tow with a 5MP shooter at the back that does Full HD video recording and a 2MP front-facing camera. Could this be a new generation Xperia E instead?
