T-Mobile CEO John Legere has built a reputation for himself that one won’t associate with many CEOs. He is very vocal about the competition and often pulls stunts to undermine them, like showing up uninvited to an AT&T party and getting escorted out by security. Yesterday as the Super Bowl commercials were rolling he took a few jabs at Sprint finally prompting Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure to respond.
Legere himself said that he often does this to get a response from his competitors. Though he’s not always so lucky. Many simply don’t choose to respond but it looks like Claure took the bait.
During the game yesterday as the commercials were rolling, Sprint had one, Legere tweeted “Half-assed commercial, half-assed data speeds. #typical @sprint. #SprintLikeHell”
Those who follow Legere wouldn’t be surprised by the wording. He’s usually much more vocal than that. Even though his tweet had mentioned Sprint’s official account CEO Marcelo Claure responded with his personal Twitter account.
He didn’t write anything, the tweet contained a link to an image of a quote he uploaded.
Legere was quick to hit back with his own response to the quote. “@marceloclaure @sprint Oh look! You learned how to use the “respond” button. I thought you only knew how to use the retweet button.”
Unfortunately for him Claure had no further response. I’m sure many would be hoping that this would somehow turn into a Twitter fight with both CEOs taking each other to task but perhaps that’s a fight for another day.
