Apple Watch App Store Now Boasts Over 3,500 Titles

apple_watch_appsAt the start of the month before the launch of the Apple Watch, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook revealed that over a 1,000 apps had been submitted for the Apple Watch, although like we noted at that time, having an app submitted does not mean that it will be approved and put up for sale/download as there are certain requirements that developers have to meet.

So now with the Apple Watch having been launched, how many apps are there at this point in time? Speaking during Apple’s earnings conference call, Cook revealed that the number has since jumped to a whopping 3,500 apps which have been specifically designed for the Apple Watch in mind.

This growth is a much speedier one compared to the iPhone and iPad which launched with 500 and 1,000 apps respectively. Cook stated during the call that Apple only expected and aimed to beat it by a slight margin but were surprised when the more than tripled their estimates. “And we thought it would be great if we were able to do that by a little bit, and as I’ve mentioned before, we now have over 3,500 apps in the App Store for the Watch.”

That being said developing for the Apple Watch has not proved easy as for the first-gen device, Apple has restricted access to a lot of its hardware functions, and only select developers were given access to more features. Presumably like in the case of iOS, Apple will eventually start opening its doors to more features and we will start seeing more creative and unique apps for the device.
