zenfone-2-9Many are probably aware that Intel has attempted to break into the mobile market by launching mobile chipsets of their own. However when it comes to OEMs adopting their technology, there aren’t that many. In fact ASUS is probably one of the companies who has been supporting Intel’s efforts these years.

However it looks like that could soon change. In an interview with ASUS CEO Jerry Shen, he revealed that the company could be thinking of turning to Qualcomm’s chipsets in the future. Now for Intel fans you can rest assured that ASUS will not be abandoning Intel’s chipsets entirely. Instead it has been suggested that maybe Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chipsets might be used for the company’s mid-range devices.

As for their use of Intel’s products, this will be limited to the company’s flagship smartphones which we suppose is just as good, While we can only speculate, Shen’s answers seem to hint that the ZenFone 3 could continue to use Intel’s offerings. Of course there’s no guarantee as who knows, perhaps Qualcomm’s offerings might prove to be better than Intel and ASUS could shift their entire lineup to Qualcomm’s chipsets.

Or Qualcomm’s processors might not be efficient or cheap enough for the company and we could see ASUS move back to Intel entirely, but either way what do you guys think? Are you the type that really cares about who makes the chipset in your phone? Or are you happy as long as the phone does what it’s supposed to do?
