Star Wars fans who use Twitter have something amazing to look forward to today. The microblogging network just announced that it’s bringing Star Wars emoji to the service. It has taken this step in anticipation of the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and for this purpose Twitter partnered with Disney and Lucasfilm to create custom Star Wars emoji for Twitter.

Twitter is going to release a variety of custom Star Wars emoji “in honor of the upcoming film,” the emoji will also include some of the most iconic characters from previous films as well as some new characters from The Force Awakens.

Three new Star Wars emoji have debuted today, they include C3Po, Stormtrooper and BB8, they were unveiled during the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California.

The company has made it very simple to tweet Star Wars emoji. You just have to post hashtags that represent keywords associated with specific Star Wars characters and legacy themes. This will automatically bring up a small emoji-like icon appended to the end of the text of the tag, and will be embedded within the tweet itself.

As the release of The Force Awakens nears we can expect Twitter to introduce even more Star Wars emoji, but fans will surely be content with the three that it has introduced today.
