BlackBerry is widely known for making devices that government agencies, politicians and business people heavily rely upon. That’s because the company places security above everything else and that’s one of the reasons why it continues to stick around despite being virtually wiped out of the consumer market. Though BlackBerry helped Ed Miliband, who is in the running to become Britain’s prime minister, to get over his smartphone obsession.

Elections in the United Kingdom are just around the corner and those hopeful to get the top job are working the media, as contenders do during an election campaign.

Ed Miliband sat down with Absolute Radio and revealed that he switched from his iPhone to a BlackBerry only because he couldn’t obsess over a device that offers “limited functionality.”

Now that’s some serious shade towards BlackBerry, which has powered presidents and prime ministers for decades, it’s no secret that President Obama can’t live without his BlackBerry.

Miliband gave up the iPhone because he was “obsessive about checking Twitter and political commentary,” that’s what the interviewer said, he replied in the affirmative. “The good thing about a BlackBerry — I’m going to insult the BlackBerry makers now — is that it’s harder to do those things and so it’s more limited functionality,” he said.

Well, its not like you can’t check Twitter or catch up with the news on a BlackBerry Passport, perhaps Miliband made the switch because he didn’t want to be distracted by all the apps that you can get on an iPhone. Everybody knows BlackBerry has a serious shortage of quality applications.

He might end up having to stick with the BlackBerry though, particularly if he’s elected as the prime minister.
