bungie_nepalWhile it has been a couple of months since the devastating Nepal earthquakes, there is still a lot to be done. There are still plenty of people who are injured, still missing, or who have been made homeless due to the disaster. What this means is that relief efforts are still needed and it looks like the developers behind Destiny are here to deliver.

Bungie has recently announced that recently they have managed to raise a little over $1 million which will be used to support relief efforts in the country. To raise these funds, the developers announced that they would begin selling limited edition Destiny t-shirts, an in-game shader and emblem, with proceeds going towards said efforts.

It seems that because of that, they have managed to raise a whopping $1,026,006.80 that was recently presented to Direct Relief. “This was an astounding act of generosity on the part of Bungie and the larger Bungie community, and we at Direct Relief are deeply grateful — beyond what can be expressed in words,” according to the group’s president and CEO Thomas Tighe.

Tighe adds, “Every penny will be spent to help strengthen essential health services that were needed before the earthquakes and much more so now.” Meanwhile other companies have similarly offered their help. Viber, Skype, and Sprint offered up free calls and messages to and from the country; Sony and Apple raised funds through PSN and iTunes respectively; and companies like Google and Facebook released tools that would help put loved ones in contact with each other.
