kanai's cubeOne of the cool features of Diablo 2 was the Horadric Cube. It was a cube that could be used to combine items and create new ones with the use of runes and gems, leading to the creation of some of the most powerful armor and weapons in the game. Diablo 3 on the other hand has no such feature, at least until now.

In an announcement on the Diablo 3 blog, Blizzard revealed that the upcoming Patch 2.3.0 will introduce an item called Kanai’s Cube. While not strictly the same, it will offer up some of the features of the Horadric Cube, giving the game a much needed refresh in terms of playstyle, stat allocation, and more in case you were starting to get a bit weary of the grind.

According to Blizzard, “In Patch 2.3.0, players will be able to discover this powerful ancient relic and utilize its incredible potential, including the ability to break down Legendary items and equip their special effects as passive skills (which are separate from your other passive skills), convert crafting materials from one type to another, and so much more.”

It sounds like an interesting feature of the game and it will be available for players to take for a spin on the Public Test Realm soon. As for gamers who would much rather just wait for the actual release, there is unfortunately no telling when that will be but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled all the same.
