jaguar-mind-senseLet’s be honest, how focused are you when you are driving? We’re sure many are guilty of not paying 100% to the road, either fiddling around with our phones, talking to other people in the car, singing along to the radio, eating, and so on. However Jaguar is hoping to introduce a new system to vehicles that can monitor your concentration levels.

Dubbed Sixth Sense, this brainwave scanning technology will be courtesy of sensors embedded into your steering wheel and it is actually derived from a piece of NASA technology. The sensors will then be able to read your brainwaves to determine if you’re alert/focused enough to drive and the steering wheel can then be programmed to vibrate or even issue an audio alert should your mind start to wander.

This won’t be the only sensors embedded into the car. Jaguar is also eyeing embedding sensors into the driver’s seat to detect your stress levels, and when it detects that you are stressed, comforting/soothing music could be played and the lights might be dimmed. It is also expected to play a role in self-driving cars in the future where if it detects you are incapacitated, it will take over for you.

Jaguar is also imagining an infotainment unit of the future where you don’t need to touch the screen as it can recognize what you’re trying to do with gestures in mid-air. They are also creating a pedal that can detect when you’re over the speed limit or driving too fast and will vibrate to warn you. Pretty amazing pieces of technology but when exactly will they debut and become mainstream is anyone’s guess.
