PattiLuponeIf you’ve ever given a presentation and look around to see people talking amongst themselves or texting on their phones, you know that it is not a nice feeling. It basically says you’re not doing a good job of keeping people interested in what you have to say, plus it is pretty rude as well.

Unfortunately it seems that this happened during a recent performance by Broadway actress Patti LuPone, in which she discovered an audience member texting during her show at the Lincoln Center. She was so incensed that she actually went to the audience member, ripped the phone from their hands, and walked off stage with it.

While it sounds like it might have disrupted the show, it actually didn’t as those who were witness to the act said it was totally in character. According to LuPone, “We work hard on stage to create a world that is being totally destroyed by a few, rude, self-absorbed and inconsiderate audience members who are controlled by their phones.”

She adds, “When a phone goes off or when a LED screen can be seen in the dark, it ruins the experience for everyone else — the majority of the audience at that performance and the actors on stage.” So much so that LuPone stated that she’s seriously questioning whether she wants to carry on working on stage.

This follows another recent incident in which an audience member who attended a Broadway show climbed onto stage and attempted to charge his smartphone using the fake outlet, going to show how inconsiderate some people are, and how addicted we are to our phones where we can’t even go an hour or two without looking at it.
