prince

Prince fans will be well aware that the artist isn’t really the biggest fan of modern technology particularly when it comes to selling his music which is why they might not be surprised to hear that The Purple One has yanked all of his music off of music streaming services. His back catalog is no longer available through services like Spotify and Rdio and no explanation has been provided by his publisher for this move.

The Spotify page for Prince now carries a messages which reveals that Prince’s publisher “has asked all streaming services to remove his catalog. We have cooperated with the request, and hope to bring his music back as soon as possible.”

Some services were more quick to remove his catalog than others, with his music still being accessible on Tidal, Google Play and Deezer as of this writing, and it’s not clear whether they’re the exceptions or they’ve just not complied with the request fast enough.

Apple Music users shouldn’t expect to find his music on the new service because it was never offered to Apple Music to begin with, though the artist has been contributing some tracks to his SoundCloud page.

No word as yet if music streaming services will be able to bring back The Purple One.
