tesla model s p85dIn case you didn’t already know, Tesla’s Model S P85D has a mode call “Insane” which basically takes the car from 0 to 60mph in an impressive 3.2 seconds. That is pretty fast, right? However it looks like the folks at Tesla have decided to kick things up a notch by introducing a new mode which they’ve literally called “Ludicrous”.

Instead of going 0 to 60mph in 3.2 seconds, Ludicrous mode will be able to take drivers in the Model S from 0 to 60mph in a blazing 2.8 seconds! Now some of you might think that the difference in 0.4 seconds is small, but when it comes to cars and bragging rights, even a millisecond can make all the difference.

However unlike Insane mode which came via a software update to the car, Ludicrous mode is actually more of a hardware upgrade, which also means that it won’t come free. This is because to make the Model S P85D go even faster, Tesla had to build new physical hardware, such as a fuse that wouldn’t melt.

This also means that if you buy a Model S P85D and you want the feature, it will cost you an extra $10,000. For existing owners, the feature will cost $5,000 but this is just for the hardware alone, meaning the installation price could set you back a bit more.
