New gold-and-black images of Tesla’s next Optimus humanoid robot, labeled Gen 3, have turned up online. They show a cleaner-looking machine: a champagne-gold torso, covered hips where earlier prototypes left joints exposed, and matte-black covers on the knees and shins.
Compared with older gold, more open-legged Optimus art, this one reads closer to a finished product than a lab build. Tesla has framed Gen 3 as the first Optimus generation designed for large-scale production, with upgrades meant to make the robot more useful at real work.
A more enclosed, product-like exterior fits that story: a step toward robots that can do more of the jobs people and companies want machines to handle, and toward work in factories and other industries rather than only standing on a demo stage.
The pictures are static images used as app artwork, not confirmed factory photos of shipping hardware, so take it with a pinch of salt. Tesla has not confirmed or denied that this gold-and-black design is the final Gen 3 exterior.
Curious when ordinary people might see a humanoid Optimus out in the world? Keep expectations modest. There is no sourced claim that this Gen 3 look will soon walk through stores or city streets.
What is on the record is thin: Tesla showcased an upcoming Gen 3 at AWE 2026 in Shanghai (staff there talked about end-2026 mass-production aims and said the final unit may differ from the display); The company talk about Optimus doing simple tasks inside Tesla factories; Fremont and Texas production capacity plans.
There’s also very soft chatter about possible consumer sales around end-2027. Those are program teases and plans, not a sidewalk timeline for the leaked look.
Where the images came from is almost as interesting as the look itself. People who inspect phone-app packages found three picture files named robot_closeup_gen3.png, robot_home_full_body_gen3.png, and robot_home_inactive_gen3.png inside Tesla’s own Android phone app.

- Reporting from TeslaMagz and others says the files first appeared around August 27, 2026, were upscaled around September 5, and were still present on September 22.
- Public notice spiked September 22-23 after Whole Mars Catalog shared the art (that post was later deleted) and outlets including Tesla North, Not a Tesla App, Teslarati, and 36Kr recirculated it.
Some writeups place the files in an assets/mock folder, where developers often stash placeholder interface art. Tesla has stayed silent on the discovery as of September 24, 2026.
