control panel_1 Say you wanted to launch iTunes on your computer, you click the icon on your desktop. Or if you wanted to save a file in Microsoft Word, you can either press CTRL-S or go to File, Save, and save it. However it seems that Redditor smashcuts decided that maybe using his keyboard or his computer to perform these actions got a little boring.

So much so that he has actually built a fully-functioning overhead control panel for his computer, where pressing physical buttons and flicking physical switches will actually execute commands on his computer. For example he has buttons that perform actions such as Open, Save, Close, and so on.

He also has a panel in which he can launch dedicated apps, such as Chrome, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, and iTunes. There’s even a section dedicated to relaxation, such as launching music and videos that he enjoys, along with a massive red button that launches videos of cats, something the internet seems to love.

We have to admit that this is probably one of the more awesome DIY projects we’ve seen so far. Now smashcuts has posted the entire process along with a horde of images on his Imgur account. While they’re not instructions per se, if you’re so inclined you can check out his process and maybe you can come up with something of your own as well.
