If you wanted an MMORPG that had no subscription fee, Guild Wars 2 was an option. All you had to do was buy the game and you’d be good to go, no monthly subscription unlike other MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft. That being said, it looks like ArenaNet, the developers behind Guild Wars 2, have decided to go down the free to play route.
What does this mean? Basically the game won’t cost you a cent. You won’t have to pay for the initial game or a monthly subscription. All you’d have to do is head on over to the Guild Wars 2 website, sign up for an account and you’d be good to go. That being said, there will be some restrictions to these free accounts.
For starters their bag slots will be smaller, and they will be restricted to certain zones until certain requirements are met, as opposed to being able to freely roaming the world. They will also be restricted in how they communicate with paid players. It does sound a bit restrictive but if you’re a super casual gamer, we suppose it’s not too big of a deal.
Or if you just want to get an idea of the game, this should do the trick as well. Guild Wars 2’s decision to go free to play joins the list of other formerly-paid MMOs who have decided to adopt the model as well, such as Wildstar and Star Wars: The Old Republic. In the meantime if you’d like to check out the restrictions, head on over to the Guild Wars 2 help page for the details.
