Skype For Business Makes Its Way Onto Mobile

skype for businessLast month Microsoft launched its Skype for Business app for Windows Phone devices, and if you’re wondering when the app will make its way onto iOS or Android, you might not have to wait much longer. Microsoft has since announced that they are launching the technical preview of Skype for Business for iOS and Android devices.

Just in case you’re hearing about Skype for Business for the first time, this is essentially a rebranded version of Lync 2013, which for those unfamiliar is an instant messaging tool designed for the enterprise. However it has since been rebranded and given a new and familiar UI that is akin to Skype, hence Skype for Business.

According to Microsoft, Skype for Business will feature a dashboard where you can access all your contacts, but will also include upcoming meetings and reminders. The In-Call and In-Meeting experience has also been updated to make it easier to use and navigate, along with video which will now fill up your mobile device’s entire screen.

However as we mentioned earlier, this is a technical preview meaning that it’s sort of in beta mode and isn’t ready for prime time just yet. If you’d like to participate in the technical preview, your company’s IT admin needs to head on over to the Skype website and nominate users for iOS and Android devices in order to be considered. If not you can always wait for its official release which should be later this year, according to Microsoft.
