HTC One M9 owners on Verizon have long been waiting for the Android 5.1 update to arrive and the long wait finally ends today, it has been confirmed that the aforementioned update will be released for this handset today, August 20th. There are some significant changes included in this update so users advised to be quick to jump on Android 5.1 when it finally goes live for their HTC One M9 on Verizon.

Mo Versi, the vice president of product management at HTC, revealed through Twitter that this update is going to be released for HTC One M9 on Verizon today. He also mentioned all of the major changes that are included in Android 5.1 for this device.

Aside from all the bells and whistles that Android 5.1 features, this update for HTC One M9 also brings Band 3 & Band 7 roaming and a fix for the critical Android vulnerability commonly known as Stagefright.

The Stagefright security vulnerability was recently discovered and Google was quick to patch it, over the past couple of weeks many OEM and carriers have sent out security updates for various Android devices to safeguard them against attacks that might exploit this vulnerability.

Verizon is going to start rolling out this software update for the HTC One M9 today, it may take a while for the update to go live across the country.
