iphone_3d_touchWith the launch of the new iPhones, Apple also introduced a new feature in the form of 3D Touch. In a way it is similar to Force Touch on the Apple Watch and the MacBooks, but a little different in execution. For those who missed the announcement, basically 3D Touch lets users perform different actions depending on how hard they are pressing their phone’s displays.

It sounds pretty nifty but it also raised an important question – would 3D Touch work if users were to use a screen protector on their phones? As it turns out, it will. This is according to a report from 3D Techtronics who apparently emailed Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller asking about any potential issues.

Schiller reportedly replied by saying that as long as the screen protectors follow Apple’s guidelines, they will work with 3D Touch. Now this might seem a bit silly, but it is a valid concern. There are some screen protectors made from tempered glass that are much thicker than your regular screen protector.

With the thickness, we’re sure some are wondering if the pressure can be translated and detected by the 3D Touch sensors, but like Schiller said, if they have followed Apple’s guidelines on screen overlays, you guys should be good to go.
