While the Uber service is certainly giving regular taxi drivers a run for their money by eating into their market share, one also ought to take into consideration there are some allegedly rogue Uber drivers out there. Just like how we should not let a rotten apple spoil the entire barrel, so too, should such people be weeded out. One of the more recent cases involve a man who allegedly lured a couple of female college students into his car by misrepresenting himself as an Uber driver, and hence, the Texas police are on the lookout for him
According to Texas Christian University police, a man picked up the two students at 2 a.m. on Sunday, citing that his fare did not appear, where the two ladies did not give too much thought about it. Following that, the man allegedly “initiated inappropriate conversations” with the women, before making an attempt to hug one of them.
An Uber spokesperson has remained mum on the situation, but did mention that Uber’s standard operation procedure would be to bar drivers from picking up passengers who have not made an order for the Uber car via the app. After all, it is crucial as the app keeps track of identifying information including that of the driver’s name, while ensuring the ride is tracked via GPS. Now, men might not suffer a similar level of harassment, but this does not mean that the guys should throw caution to the wind, either!
