We reported last week that a rather mysterious countdown timer has appeared on Pebble’s website with no hints about what it’s counting down to, many speculated that perhaps it was counting down to the release of a major firmware update, but the information we received from a trusted source was that Pebble will soon be unveiling a new smartwatch. That’s exactly what has happened today, meet Pebble Time Round, the company’s first round smartwatch.

Pebble says that it’s thinner and lighter than any other while still being a very capable smartwatch at heart. The always-on round e-paper display looks great and lets users easily access all of the functionality of the smartwatch.

The new smartwatch itself weighs just 28 grams while coming in at 7.5mm thin, according to the company these measurements make Pebble Time Round the “thinnest and lightest smartwatch in the world.”

It will be available in a variety of watch finishes, band options and band sizes starting from a band size of 20mm or 14mm. Customers can then pick a finish that best suits their style, a word of caution for those who want the special-edition Rose Gold: it will only be available for the 14mm band size.

Pebble promises “days-long battery life,” quick charging which provides a day’s worth of use after 15 minutes of charge and even splash resistance for those rainy days. The new smartwatch starts at $249 can be reserved at Pebble.com, come early November the Pebble Time Round will also be available from retailers like Amazon, BestBuy and Target.
