tesla-model-x-launchWe do know that Tesla is readying its Model X SUV for a launch today, but this does not mean that Tesla is not looking to enhance their vehicles some time down the road. At this point in time, their flagship model, the Model S P85D, managed to eke out a whopping 452.8 miles on a single charge, and this was achieved at a snail’s pace of 24.2 mph – which is something that normal folks will not do. Hence, to hit the target of a 745-mile range is possible, albeit at such a slow pace, making it impractical, although it is a revolutionary leap where battery technology is concerned.

This increase in range can be attributed to the new batteries that roll off Tesla’s planned Gigafactories. Such factories have the ability to roll out lithium-ion batteries that will sport a new chemical compound in selected southwestern states, where these new batteries can help lower production costs by a significant amount, in addition to lasting longer, of course. It is said that such an increased range will be feasible in half a decade’s time, although the same time frame might not see the introduction of fully autonomous vehicles from Tesla just yet. I guess as long as there is optimism in the air, we can look forward to a brighter future.
