Just last week Sharp announced a trio of new smartphones. Turns out that was not all Sharp had up their sleeves as the company has recently announced a new smartphone called the RoboHon. However in terms of design, the RoboHon will not look anything like the smartphones in today’s market.

As you can see in the video above, the RoboHon actually resembles a humanoid figure, a robot basically. Now we have to admit that it does seem a little hard to use a phone in this manner, but it’s definitely a unique idea that was cooked up by famed roboticist professor Tomotaka Takahashi.

The RoboHon features a tiny 2-inch display on its back, and on the front it will feature a camera and a built-in projector. The projector will be able to display maps, photos, videos, and more. Based on the video, it seems like the RoboHon will be able to speak its users, informing them of incoming messages and calls, allowing them to speak back to it to translate voice to text.

In fact it can move and adjust itself into a “phone” position that will nestle comfortably on your phone when making calls. It’s an incredibly unique idea but whether or not it is practical remains to be seen. However it seems to be limited to Japan where it is expected to launch in H1 2016.
