100m iphonesTry as they might, even the most ardent Apple fan cannot disagree with the fact that Android is the more dominating operating system. Granted iOS and Android account for two of the largest slices in the pie, but Android is clearly the bigger of the two. However this is largely due to the fact that there are many Android OEMs versus Apple who manufactures their own products.

This is why despite Android winning in market share, Apple takes the lead as far as smartphone OEMs are concerned. If you are curious as to how dominant Apple is in terms of smartphones, a recent report from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has revealed that in September, Apple now has 100 million iPhones in the US market alone.

The number of iPhones has been on the rise and back in August, CIRP reported that the number was at 97 million, so to add an additional 3 million iPhones in such a short period of time is an impressive feat. Do take note that CIRP based their survey on just 500 Apple customers and extrapolated the data upwards, so it might not necessarily be 100% accurate.

According to CIRP, “Apple has fewer first time smartphone buyers to add to their base, and faces the challenge of attracting loyal Android users.” This means that despite Apple constantly boasting the increasing number of Android switchers, it seems that the bulk of their customers are returning ones, which we guess is actually a good thing but it probably won’t be doing much for iOS’ market share.
