If you have been playing video games from back in the day, you know that one of the more popular RTS games back then was the Age of Empire franchise (competitive StarCraft notwithstanding). That being said if you’re still a fan of the franchise even until today, you might be interested to learn that Age of Empires 2 HD Edition will be getting a new expansion this week.

It has been officially announced that come 5th of November, the expansion which is titled African Kingdoms, will be released on Steam. The expansion will introduce four new civilizations along with four new campaigns that have full voice-acting. Apart from the new content, the expansion will also tweak the current game to balance things out, such as adding new naval units.

It’s actually interesting to see that despite the Age of Empires franchise being so old that there is still some attention being paid to it. We’ve seen companies release HD remakes in the past, but this is one of the few instances where they’ve actually gone above and beyond by creating new content for the remake.

For those unfamiliar with the HD Edition of Age of Empires 2, basically it’s the same game that you have played back in the day. It was released in 2013 and it features updated graphics to support higher resolutions, along with support for user-made content and multiplayer which can be played via Steam.
