Starbucks is pretty in tune with the times as far as technology goes, it does allow you to order your coffee before you even get there, saving everybody tons of time on the way to work in the morning. Dunkin’ Donuts is another purveyor of Joe and breakfast items, it has now started testing mobile ordering in a bid to catch up with the times, and of course, with Starbucks.

Starting today 124 Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Portland, Maine will let customers order via a smartphone app before they reach the store. In Dallas 19 locations are testing deliveries. Customers in Dallas can order coffee, doughnuts and sandwiches online which will be delivered to then in 45 minutes or less, DoorDash will be providing the service.

Additional locations across Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Washington will soon start bringing coffee drop-offs. “Speed is one of our brand differentiators,” says Scott Hudler, vice president of global consumer engagement, while acknowledging that “the morning space and the coffee space are incredibly crowded,” which is why speed really is a crucial element for success in this business.

Dunkin’ Donuts is obviously following Starbucks that already lets customers order ahead and is also doing deliveries as well, nevertheless it’s a step in the right direction, saving customers a lot of time while they get their coffee or doughnut fix by just tapping a few buttons inside an application.
