When you’ve been locked up in prison for 44 years, it’s safe to say that the world around you today is definitely a very different world from when you went in. Otis Johnson was sent to prison at a young age of 25 and was only released 44 years later at the ripe old age of 69. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Johnson reacts to the hi-tech world that we are currently living in.

For many of us, seeing billboards lighting up the side of buildings is pretty common and unless it was a particularly interesting ad, we don’t really pay much attention to it. It is also a pretty common sight to see people with headphones in their ears and Bluetooth headsets, walking around chatting on their smartphones and texting away.

However for Johnson this was a completely new experience, one that seems to be rather overwhelming for him. He claims that in his view, there were a lot of people who seemed like they were talking to themselves with “things in their ears” (headphones). That imagery gave him that impression that everybody was a CIA agent, because in the 60s and 70s, only federal agents seemed to have that technology.

Johnson was also amazed at how people managed to use their phones and walk without looking where they were going. It’s a pretty interesting and unique perspective on modern society and technology, so if you have a few minutes to spare do check out the video above.
