Every month under its Games with Gold program for people who pay for an Xbox Live Gold subscription Microsoft provides free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. The company is closing out the year with a bang as it will be offering five titles for the Xbox One free under the Games with Gold program, two of those will be native Xbox One titles while the other three will be Xbox 360 games that can now be played on the Xbox One as backwards compatibility has gone live.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, an action role playing game, is coming to Xbox One as a free game this December. It combines a deep story with character development, combat and lots of deadly action in one single package. Thief, a popular reboot of the beloved series, is included in next month’s offerings as well.

Xbox 360 owners get CastleStorm which is a tower defense game “with a twist,” medieval fantasy game Sacred 3 is also included and so is Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. All three games will be available for Xbox 360 as well as for Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

The combined value of all five games comes out to $84.95, that in itself is more than the $59.99 Microsoft asks for a yearly subscription to Xbox Live Gold, so you can really say that the program pays for itself.
