Tesla May Make It Impossible To Misplace Your Car Keys

Tesla loves technology, that’s quite evident by the supersized display that it places smack dab in the center of the Model S dashboard, on the other hand it’s one of the few car companies that has already brought semi-autonomous driving technology to its cars. A new FCC filing shows that Tesla might be working on something which will make it impossible to replace your car keys.

The filing is for a new key fob that Tesla is working on, it supports Bluetooth Low Energy, which will enable the fob to offer additional functionality.

For example the fob might use the BLE connection to exchange some data with the car, it may even connect to the car via BLE instead of the 315MHz signal, and it may quite possibly have a “find my keys” function which users can access via a smartphone app.

Finding the misplaced keys would be as easy as firing up an app on your smartphone and tapping on a button. The idea is not exactly new, there are multiple products available right now which you can attach with keys to make sure they’re easier to locate, and Tesla won’t be the only company making super smart key fobs.

BMW is far ahead, the key fob of its 2016 7 Series has a touchscreen display and a ton of features, it can even be used to pull in and out of parking spots from outside the car, you don’t even need to be in the driving seat to do that!

It’s unclear when Tesla’s new key fob could arrive, perhaps the company might introduce it with the Model 3 next year.
