There was a time when Yahoo Messenger used to be the go-to platform for keeping in touch with friends and family wherever they might be, it was the time when some of us preferred MSN Messenger, but that has since met its decline. That hasn’t deterred Yahoo from bringing back its once iconic messenger, the company today announced the launch of the new Yahoo Messenger which as been completely rebuilt from the ground up.

Interestingly this announcement comes merely a day after it was rumored that Yahoo is going have a series of high level meetings over the next couple of days and may even decide to sell off its core business.

It seems to be sticking with Yahoo Messenger for now. The new messenger has been created with group messaging in mind, Yahoo says sharing, “unsending” and “liking” messages, animated GIFs and photos has been made insanely fast from the get go. It even ties in Yahoo’s other properties which include Flickr, Xobni and Tumblr “to serve you, for years to come.”

The new Yahoo Messenger enables users to “unsend” any message, photo or GIF and it will instantly vanish from view of everyone that’s involved in that conversation. Unsend and “like” interactions are also available in group chats. Smart contacts system in Yahoo Messenger understands the relationship between contacts, making it much faster to add people to a group, anyone in a group can add other paticipants.

Yahoo reiterates that the new Messenger has been built with speed in mind and that’s the number one priority when it comes to photo sharing, syncing conversations between Messenger on the web, in Mail or on the smartphone.

The company also says that it will continue to build more features for the new Messenger, those who are interested in trying it out can now get it on iOS, Android, on the web and in Yahoo Mail on the desktop.
