OLED Displays Rumored Again For ‘iPhone 8’

The iPhone has always had an LCD display ever since Apple released the first one back in 2007, however it has been rumored time and again that the company might adopt OLED displays for its handset. That hasn’t happened yet but these days the rumor mill is once again obsessed with OLED displays for the iPhone, it would like you to believe that the “iPhone 8” that’s destined for the year 2018 will be the first Apple handset with an OLED display.

A report out of Japan claims that Japan Display is in talks with Apple to supply OLED display panels for its future iPhone. The company is apparently hoping to start supplying the panels to Apple by the spring of 2018.

If Apple sticks to its naming convention then the handset that it releases in 2018 will be the iPhone 8, regardless of whether or not it decides to swap out LCD panels in favor of OLED.

Recent rumors have also suggested that Samsung Display is courting Apple’s business as well, it was even said at one point that the company has already sent samples to Apple for testing, though it’s unclear if the fruit company has as yet made up its mind.

It’s obviously too early right now to be seriously considering speculation about an iPhone that’s over two years away but for some reason the rumor mill is not ready to let go of the possibility that OLED displays might come to the iPhone at some point in the future. I guess we’ll have to wait and see to find out for sure.
